Results are in...posted 10/30/2008 11:43:15 PM by rzeigler
Well... the results are in for one of the worst races I've ever been a part of! I didn't actually do that bad, but the race was boring. It was basically an off-road triathlon. An eight mile beach run is not very adventurous... especially when it is straight down the beach and back.

The humidity almost killed me again. I had cramps most of the race. I hadn't been that close to heat stroke since the episode on James River Island. Oh well... I finished in just under nine hours and placed 9th out of 16 in the Male Solo category.

Coming out of retirement...posted 8/21/2008 10:51:57 PM by rzeigler
The Bighead Crew is at it again!! Three weeks until our come back race. We decided to skip the Untamed VA race since we are out of shape and we didn't want to spend $200 on river boards. The Blackbeard is more our speed right now anyway. Nice and flat and only tweleve hours instead of thirty!

On a side note... I've been taking a lot of heat over the age of my mountain bike lately. I was about to break down and buy a new one, but decided to fix it up instead. It's actually coming along quite nicely. I got a new fork, tires, pedals and a few miscellaneous replacement parts. Oh... and of course new stickers! This thing is going to be bitchin' when I'm done with it!!!

In breaking team member news... it looks like we may have a new Bighead training to join the team. Chris "Needs a Nickname" Hundley should be making his debut in the near future!

WFA Certs....posted 5/24/2008 6:46:51 PM by rzeigler
It took some trying, but I finally talked Kevin in to meeting me in Charleston, SC for a Wilderness First Aid certification course. It was only two days long, so it was very abbreviated. We did get three cert cards though! Maybe we'll have to take the longer course.

Finally...posted 4/5/2008 2:18:45 PM by rzeigler
Well... I'm finally getting around to posting an update. I haven’t had much to report since all I’ve been doing is working and sitting around the house getting fat. I’ve gone cold turkey on working out since the Howl at the Moon in October. The only race I’ve run since then was the Hunting Island Adventure Biathlon. The race consisted of a 6-mile kayak and a 4.5-mile trail run. The race director actually said it was an adventure race at the safety brief. I’m pretty sure making people do calisthenics in the middle of the run doesn’t constitute an adventure race… but hey… it is Beaufort.

The race started off pretty well considering. I was the 30th person to finish the kayak leg in about 58 minutes. That all changed on the trail run. My running was so bad that I had to walk part of the time. I had to struggle through the mental torture of being passed by person after person. By the time I made it to the finish line I was 60th of 85 finishers. I haven’t been smoked that bad since the 2000 York River Off-Road Du disaster. (Kevin you know what I mean!)
